MA Fine Art, Art and Social Practice and Printmaking students from local Middlesex University will take over the Ply Gallery in the historic Hornsey Town Hall building for one week in April, just weeks before it is closed to the public to be redeveloped as a boutique hotel.
From 3rd - 7th April the 20 students from a variety of disciplines will exhibit their work as part of their self-curated show, entitled ‘Please Wait to be Called’ in honour of the gallery’s former use as the council’s rates office. Today, the Ply Gallery has made itself known as a small, yet successful contemporary space, that made a home within the walls of this Grade II* listed building.
Elsie Bryant, MA Fine Art and Social Practice student at Middlesex University said: “All of us who will be displaying our work at the Ply Gallery as part of our ‘Please Wait to be Called’ show recognise the significance of being some of the last people to exhibit within the space. We are keen to honour the importance of the architecturally impressive site with our own artistic contributions. We really hope that the people of Crouch End and surrounding areas will join us in April at one of the gallery’s final shows.”
The exhibition opens on Wednesday 3rd April and will be open from 11am to 4.30pm daily until Sunday 7th April. To find out more, please visit www.waittobecalled.co.uk or contact elsierbryant@gmail.com.
