What’s the problem?

“There is a rapidly closing window of opportunity to secure a liveable and sustainable future for all.”  That’s one of the conclusions of the recent report of the International Panel on Climate Change. We have a window, but it’s closing fast.

Extinction Rebellion are planning events over four days near the Houses of Parliament to urge politicians to take action.  They aim to get 100,000 people to attend.  More than 200 organisations are in support - including Muswell Hill Sustainability Group.

You can choose to join activities any time over the four days, as an individual, with family or friends, or with an interest group.  Muswell Hill Sustainbility Group will go as a group on Saturday 22nd April, when we'll be celebrating biodiversity on international Earth Day.  Extinction Rebellion are hosting and stewarding in cooperation with the Metropolitan Police - there will be no roadblocks or gluing to pavements!

A full programme of rallies, marches, speakers, workshops, music and children's activities is here.  It promises to be accessible and welcoming, creative and engaging.  Here's the outline:

Friday 21st – Unite to Survive.
Opening ceremony at 3pm.  Westminster is filled with flags, banners and people.

Saturday 22nd – Earth Day. An enormous, celebration & family-friendly march for biodiversity!   Saturday will be colourful and creative with activities for children and families

Sunday 23rd – Running Out of Time!  The Big One coexists with the London Marathon.sunday ditto activities for children and workshops by Grandparents XR

Monday 24th – Choose Your Future. Parliament returns, the demand is delivered.

Here is the programme.

How you can take part

1.  Join MHSG's group on The Big One for Biodiversity Day, Saturday 22nd April.  We'll meet at Bounds Green Underground station at 10am with our banner and travel together to Westminster.  Please dress as a tree - brown trousers and green top as a minimum.  Events will run all day, stay as long as you wish.  Please email info@mhsgroup.org if you'll be travelling with the group.

2.  Join XR Muswell Hill and XR Haringey outside the Department of Levelling Up anytime (from 7am) on Friday 21st, at 2 Marsham Street, SW1P 4DF.

3. Head for Westminster any time over the four days 21st-24th April - tell your friends and bring them with you!
