Saturday March 4th 10.30 am to noon

This weekend, March 3-5, is Keep Britain Tidy's Great British Spring Clean and we would like to do our bit in the park. The park contractors, John O'Conner, do a great job keeping the large areas of the Park free of litter, but it can accumulate in bushes and brambles which is where we come in. We had a successful session earlier this month at the west end of the park, but now we want to tackle the east end.

Please come along to help - we will provide gloves, bags and litter pickers, but you do need to dress to cope with muddy ground underfoot and the occasional entanglement with brambles.

Join us on Saturday morning at 10.30am at the Gas Hut which is the small brick building by the Bedford Road entrance to the park.

A reminder to all local parents. The open meeting of FAIR FUNDING FOR ALL SCHOOLS is happening this Tuesday 21st at Coleridge Primary School - 77 Crouch End Hill N8 8DN at 8pm.

All schools in England are facing the biggest real term cuts in spending in a generation! The campaign's new website is http://www.fairfundingforallschools.org/

Talk organised by Friends of Alexandra Park:

The place and street names in London, which we use every day, have fascinating origins most of which are a mystery to us.  Mathew Frith of the London Wildlife Trust will reveal to us how many have been derived from natural features, rural practices or plants and animals: like Hanger from the Old English 'hangra' - a wooded slope. Come to the talk and hear the whole story.

Join us for refreshments from 7:30pm with the talk starting at 8pm prompt.

Space is limited, so please email allyparkn10@gmail.com to book places and we will reply with the venue.

Jazz at Karamel: Time Zone

Thursday May 18th

TIME ZONE plays an innovative “deep fusion” of Cuban music and Jazz – soulful, catchy and rhythmically provocative. Cuban elements are re-assembled, as in collage, or mutated to fit odd meters more common in eastern Europe, yet still with a Cuban feel… Bilingual compositions where the groove can change in mid flow, like suddenly turning a corner, a new view opening up, another way of looking at things.

“This album from Cuba-devoted Hackney trumpeter Loz Speyer means what its title says, all the way from the imaginative fusions of Cuban dance forms and pungent contemporary jazz of his Time Zone sextet, to the snaps of Santiago and his Cuban family’s hard-won travel documents on the artwork.” – The Guardian

Doors open 7pm. Music starts 8pm.

Tickets: £8 available from www.karamel.london or £10 on the door

Loz Speyer (trumpet, flugelhorn) Martin Hathaway (alto sax, bass clarinet) Stuart Hall (guitar, violin) Ryan Trebilcock (bass) Andy Ball (drums) Maurizio Revalico (congas)
