  • And here's a picture of the foyer infront of the theatre. What an incredible transformation (Photo by Graham Bennett, Friends of Alexandra Palace Theatre).113562610?profile=RESIZE_930x

  • How fantastic. I heard tickets for this performance sold out in about an hour.

    • Ah, did they! I made sure to get online when booking started. Did you try to book?

It was so evocative - rather like going to a show in an ancient monument, with traces of the original painting on the walls, and the pediment below where we were sitting consisting of mesh that you could see through! Needed some attention before it could look like the solid stone/cement of the other pediments. Only the statues on either side of the stage with their red-ochre surrounds looked perfectly finished.

In the rather elegant foyer in front of the theatre there is a wonderful huge window with a view over the boating lake - or at least, the shrubs in front of it at the moment. The east court is also transformed already from the mish-mash that it used to be - the afternoon sun through the glass dome made the whole place glow - a lovely place to sit and have a drink/tea, as many people were doing. I only just noticed that the banner above the entrance to the east court now reads 'Alexandra Palace Theatre' rather than 'Ice Rink' - presumably only temporarily, since the entrance will be around the side, I believe.
