Continental Knitting Class, North London, Winchmore Hill with Stitch! Crafts and Classes.

Continental knitting (sometimes called German knitting or European knitting) looks the same as English knitting but uses a different method. Unlike English knitting the yarn is held in the left hand in a similar way to crochet.

If you crochet but have never knitted successfully this may be the method for you. Other advantages are that it is ideally suited to knitting with two colours when combined with the English method.

Why use the continental method?

Crocheters that want to knit but find the knitting action difficult often find this method easier.

People that suffer from hand pain may find it better as it is a different movement. Switching between the two is often helpful.

Working in two colours is easier and quicker as both hands can be used to hold yarn.

This workshop will teach the basic methods of knitting, purling and casting on.

In the workshop you will learn:

How to hold the yarn and needles

Cast on continental style

Knit stitch

Purl stitch

Please bring your 4mm knitting needles. We will be providing DK yarn to use in the class.
