• Oct 14, 2017 from 10:00am to 12:30pm
  • Location: Bruce Castle Museum
  • Latest Activity: Oct 8, 2017

2018 marks the centenary of the Representation of the People Act 1918 - allowing women over the age of 30 the right to vote. Through two workshops (the first on 14th October, the second on 21st October), artists from Collective Exchange reflect on the Suffrage Movement and changing attitudes towards gender inequality since. They will kick-start the topic by investigating language, specifically gender biased language, to begin an exploration of women’s place in society.

Workshop participants will create ‘statement badges’, using simple collage techniques, layering text and images from newspapers (past and present) and social media. You will explore how unconscious gender bias phrases are used daily, and how an individual can highlight these through the process of making.

Space is limited; booking is essential. The workshops are free and open to all.

Please book by emailing: collectiveexchange.info@gmail.com
