Learn To Make An A-line or pencil Skirt! With expert seamstress Pat Stevens.

Learn new sewing skills and make yourself a fabulous winter skirt in a relaxed environment with expert seamstress Pat Stevens.

This is an intermediate sewing class on how to accurately cut out and adjust a pattern to make yourself a take-away home skirt. You will learn to create a fitted skirt using pleats that will shape it beautifully around your curves. You will also learn to create a fitted waistband, how to insert a zip fastening and finish off by neatly hemming your skirt.

This workshop is a great introduction to making a simple garment and to helping you understand the basic principles of dressmaking.

THE SKILLS YOU WILL LEARN INCLUDE:

- how to use your measurements to adapt the skirt to fit you

- cutting skirt and waistband pieces accurately

- how to sew darts to shape your garment.

- how to insert a zip (in the pencil skirt, not the A-line)

- how to prepare and finish the hemline of a skirt

We will provide skirt pattern measurements for you and you can bring along some fabric of your choice or purchase a fabric in advance from the selection in our shop.

We recommend a cord, denim or other medium to heavy fabric. Do pop into Stitch! as we have a great selection of fabric that is especially suited for this project.

This is a beginner/improver dressmaking workshop. You should already know your way around a sewing machine, be able to thread the machine, load the bobbin and do forward and back straight stitching.

MATERIALS REQUIRED: Bring your own choice of fabric or purchase fabrics in advance from our shop. You will need between 1.5 and 2m of fabric. You will be making a skirt of approximately knee length.

Please send us your dress size in the comments box
