| PRIDE | Dir. Matthew Warchus | 2015 | UK |Cert 15 | 119 mins|

Talkies Bowes and Bounds presents this great British independent movie. 'Pride’ tells the real life inspiring tale of how a group of gay activists in London decided to fundraise for a mining community in South Wales during the miners’ strike of 1984-85.

In addition to the film, we are delighted that Mike Jackson, one of the original activists who formed LGSM - Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners - will join us for a Q&A.

Friday Feb 12th Doors 7pm at Bounds Green Bowls and Tennis Club Goring Road N11 2DD

Every year the RSPB asks us all to spend an hour spotting the birds in our gardens or parks as part of the Big Garden Birdwatch.  This weekend (January 30/31) is the time to do it.  You'll find all the information you need on the RSPB website here.

If you would like some help identifying one of the birds you have seen, would like a book or chart to consult or need some more bird food, come to the Boating Lake on Sunday, 31st January where a local group of the RSPB will have a stall, and experts will be present, from 11am to 2pm.

Local Blues Legends - the Low Down Dogs are debuting at this exciting new live music venue. The Pavilion Cafe in Albert Road Recreation Ground, up from Bounds Green just past the Sunshine Garden Centre, has long been at the heart of the community for day time teas and coffee along with the best tennis and multi sports coaching in North London.

Thursday February 25th - from 7.00pm - Big Green Bookshop

“Give me books, French wine, fruit, fine weather and a little music played out of doors by somebody I do not know.” – John Keats

Well, we can’t guarantee the serenading of music or the fine weather for that matter but we think John Keats was on to something with the books and wine. Which is why we’ve teamed up with the lovely people from Oddbins to offer you a series of five very special wine tasting events throughout 2016.

Each of these tastings has a relationship with the world of wine. Whether it takes centre stage, sets the scene or aids the course of the story, these books would not be the same without it. Each of the tastings explores a different theme and you will have the chance to sample some of the most delicious wines from Oddbins’ vast selection.

Run by Angela Cosgrove, from Oddbins, they will be held every two months at the bookshop, on the last Thursday of the month, 7.00pm to about 8.30pm. There’ll be a chance to purchase extra bottles of the featured wines at discounted prices on the night too!

FEBRUARY’s event is entitled Setting the Scene

The settings of these books are characters in themselves and the imagery told conjures the beauty of the wine producing land within which goes hand in hand with the quaffing of the local wines.

Tickets for February’s event are available at just £12 HERE. If you want to book ALL FIVE tastings you can purchase a ticket for just £50 HERE.

Come along to hear the discussion on Thursday 14 January at 7.45 PM at the Civic Centre, Wood Green. Message from Joyce Rosser of Sustainable Haringey:

"Divestment – brilliant news – the council has confirmed we have 2559 signatures – way over the 2200 threshold to get a debate at Full Council. Thanks to you all for your hard work to achieve this. The next big step is the Pensions Committee meeting on Thursday 14 Jan at 7.45pm in the Civic Centre. According to the agenda they are already planning to shift 1/3 of their investments into Low Carbon funds. That is a great campaign win – but does not go far enough. So please come along and show your support."
