Barnet Band in The Grove

Friends of Alexandra Park Presents:
Back again by popular demand! The Barnet Band will be playing in The Grove, Alexandra Park, this Sunday, 19th June from 2pm to 3:30pm. The Barnet Band is a Wind Band based in...... Barnet.
Do you fancy joining them? At present they are especially looking for flute and bass players, but new players of all instruments sought.

At the same time the nearby Park Information Centre will be open. Also The Grove Café will be ready with Food and Drink for all those in need.

Come and join the party at the Pavilion Cafe for the Alexandra Park Neighbours summer get-together!  Wine, soft drinks and snacks will be provided, and hot drinks can be bought at the bar. APN passed its first anniversary back in March so we’ll also hold a very short AGM near the end of the evening to discuss ideas for going forward. All members are invited!

Amongst us will be members of several local groups: Palace Gates Residents, Friends of Alexandra Park, Pinkham Way Alliance, Muswell Hill Sustainability Group, Friends of Ally Pally Station, Supporters of Alexandra Park Library, and others, so if you are interested  in any of these, or would like to discuss issues with them, do come and have a chat over a drink.

Refugees Welcome Haringey is inviting Haringey residents to join them in celebrating Refugee Week at the launch of their Four Families by Christmas campaign at Lordship Rec on Sunday 26 June 2-5pm. At the event, there will be talks, music, and poetry readings, and a collection for a refugee charity. All are welcome.

Refugees Welcome Haringey is joining a multitude of other organisations and individuals across the UK to celebrate the huge contribution refugees make to society during Refugee Week, which takes place between 20-26 June this year. Up and down the country hundreds of arts, cultural and educational events will be taking place to encourage better understanding between communities.

The Four Families by Christmas campaign urges Haringey Council to resettle four Syrian families via the Government Vulnerable Person Resettlement scheme by Christmas 2016.

Christos Papaioannou will be reflecting on the work of Medecins sans Frontieres in Greece

Elfadil Baker, a Darfurian chef who arrived via Calais, and 16 years later returned to prepare warm meals for refugees at Christmas, will be talking about his life

Sabrina Tucci, an Italian human rights defender will be talking about her recent experience as an observer in the Palestinian city of Hebron

Rihab Azar, virtuoso classical oud player from Syria, will be performing

Plus: poetry readings from Exiled Writers Ink writers

Friends of Alexandra Park presents:
Wednesday, 8th June Stuart Little will again draw on his researches into the history of Alexandra Park and Palace to present a selection of fascinating insights into the first hundred years or so of the Park.  Be ready for a brisk walk between the places of interest, and it won't all be on footpaths.
Meet just inside the Park at the North View Road entrance at 7pm.  The walk is free and will last an hour.

What’s on at Karamel in October?

Thursday 9 October – Hunter Muskett at Bowes Park Folk Club at Mum’s Bistro, 143 Myddleton Road N22, 7.45pm.

Saturday 11 to Sunday 12 October – Open Studios in Alexandra Park and Muswell Hill, 11am-5pm. A chance to visit artists in their own homes and studios and at various locations around the area.

Saturday 11 October – Lunchtime Concert at St. Andrew’s Church, 1pm. Handel, Mozart, Bernstein and more.

Wednesday 15 October – Let’s Get Fit for Winter with Action and Discussion at Hornsey Parish Church Hall, Cranley Gardens, 1.30-3pm.
